Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 Premium

Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 Premium (© ; licentie: )

  1. Dear Mr. Paulus,

First, I beg your pardon for not thanking you much earlier, I had to find again my notes on the site address(diskidee.be).

Second, so let me thank you very very much indeed, you kind answer is not a “small explanation” just giving “some answer” to my problem, but is a perfect summarizing of what any would-be user needs to know about it in order to buy without fear to lose his money.

Having read some descriptions of the program, I perfectly understand your explanations about different “users” that have to be set up for different languages, and indeed, I had anticipated such an implementation of the multi-language possibility. But then, I had feared that those “users” had still to cope with some Dutch and thus was eager to know to what extent; in fact, I had hoped that the spoken commands, like punctuation marks, etc., would not be in Dutch in every language, but then, what did I know?

In short, my fear was that Nuance had perhaps made it almost impossible to any non-Dutch speaker to use this quadruple-language version, the only one, in order to prevent non-Dutch speakers using it for English-French-German, since this way, in buying the Dutch version, you are able to avoid double purchase German-English and French-English… and avoid perhaps a lot of trouble if you use them on the same computer, so in a way this Dutch version, realized the way it is, is “against their commercial interests”.

Thus I’m very glad and happy that my fears were unfounded, and the least you can say, they do ZERO promotion for making this Dutch version known, all the less really sell it to non-Dutch buyers…

This does not solve any similar problem for any speaker needing another language not included in the Dutch version, though, and in my mails to them, I suggested they might simply sell a “native” version in any those languages, with or without the “free” English second language included –

by the way, the English version does not include any second language, and most versions in the Netherlands are indeed that English version, and even German versions – I’m speaking of ebay.nl here, whereas in Belgium, it’s very easy to buy the French version, but for the Dutch one… and no real info about the Dutch version by any Belgian vendor… -,

and then, they would sell add-on packs, additional languages packs to be integrated into any (other) native version; thus, a German translator for Italian, French and Spanish would buy the German version and the three additional language packs for the Roman languages, for let’s say 50 dollars / euros each.

But in fact, this would be 3 or 4 purchases as things currently are: D, F, I, E… or NL, I, E…

And more so, it seems that it’s the “better” versions only that do allow for installing several versions on the same computer (but then, 2 perhaps, but 3? 4? I doubt that!), i.e. Preferred up to now, Premium from now on, but not the Home versions: I’m not sure but in their comparative tables, they state that the Home / Basic versions do not allow for several users / profiles, so buying 4 times Home would perhaps a very bad idea for anybody needing those languages since he would need perhaps three other computers to install them…

While I’m not sure about this, I’m very happy, as said, that at least for English-D-F speakers, there is that rather “hidden” Dutch version, of which I’ll buy the Premium version (since it’s only one I need then, I can afford 😉 ).

In fact, I know that there are three languages in Belgium, NL, F and D… plus the usual English, which gives four languages indeed, but then, it should be renamed the Belgian version, no?

Anyway, let’s rejoice they offer this fine version that does it all for us!

Again, have my deepest gratitude, dear Mr. Paulus, to have answered my question in this very kind and complete way (and which is more, to the best possible result that could be hoped for)!

  2. Could anybody tell me if it is possible to use this version with rudimentary Dutch reading abilities only? I need to dictate in English, French and German, and the Dutch version is the only one in which that would be possible, and Nuance is NOT able to help me in any way to inform me if I can use this program in its Dutch version without needing thorough knowledge of Dutch (Neither are they able to tell me if it is possible to install the German and the French versions (both including English) on the same computer, or if this causes problems; in old versions the better versions (Preferred, now Premium) seem to function on the same computer, but the basic ones not (= from web comments, so correctness is doubtful), so this would mean to have to buy German Premium and French Premium versions to begin with…

or perhaps, “Dictating in German / French / English” for the Dutch version would mean, you can use the Dutch version even if you don’t really speak Dutch but just can read some words / menus / etc. on the screen.

Can any user of DNS 10 perhaps tell me what my chances are with the Dutch version, not speaking Dutch?

Nuance NL, etc. have their “help” people – judging from their names – in India, and they regret not being able to help me in any way, so if there was any other seriously competing program, I would be delighted to go there, but there isn’t, and the former IBM / Via Voice certainly is not a serious contender.

It’s a little bit crazy, but if you search the www in four languages, you cannot get any answer to my problem up to now, whereas its solution would help out many people (= not those needing Italian or Spanish, that’s right, but all those GB-D-F speakers out there, and there are a lot of them, even no-Dutch ones 😉 ).

Thank you very much for any help!

    • Hi Thomas, I just tried things out in version 10, probably version 11 will function in the same way. By the way, this text is also dictated and my English especially the pronunciation is rather poor. What you can do in this premium version is choosing in which language you want to dictate. If you choose for example “English”, everything will be in English, not only the menu, but also the punctuation commands. You don’t have to use “uitroepteken” but the English word “exclamation mark”. If you choose French, everything will be French and if you choose German everything will be in German. So there is no need at all to speak or to understand Dutch. However for each language you have to create a new person, for example John, François and Helmut and for each person you have to do the training (only once). John will not be able to write in French or German, and Helmut only understands German. If you have to write a letter with the first part in English and the second part in French, you can always change from identity. In the first part, you let John do the work and after that you call yourself François. I hope this small explanation will give some answers to your problem.
